Sun Sentinel–Profile in courage: Michele Vanden Broek

As the phrase from the 1948 film “The Naked City” goes, “There are 8 million stories in the naked city; this has been one of them.”
The same is said for each woman who is involved with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and her personal story of courage, endurance and ultimately triumph over a potentially fatal disease – breast cancer.
A group of passionate survivors, these women – all with unique but similar stories – seek to raise funds and spread their message of hope, education and awareness by organizing and walking to show their strength, support and resilience.
“You may not know the women who access Komen-funded services, but their stories are real.,” said Penny Westberry, executive director of the South Florida Affiliate. “They’re your neighbors, and you’re saving their lives. We encourage everyone in Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties to join the race, recruit a team, and donate what they can.”
