Palm Beach Post–Winners, Survivors at Race for the Cure in Downtown WPB

Nobody could have blamed Angie Arendell for just jogging Saturday morning.

Nobody could have blamed her for sleeping in.

A week earlier, Arendell was in Charleston, S.C., placing third in a marathon in 3 hours, 16 minutes, 43 seconds, a personal best.

Rather than get much-needed rest, she found herself on Flagler Drive as the sun rose on a perfect morning for the 22nd annual Susan G. Komen South Florida Race for the Cure. Her plan was to coast with the lead pack, which worked for about a mile of the 5K (3.1-mile) race. Then …

“When you’re used to racing, it’s hard to go out and run easy,” she said.

So she won.
