Honorary Lifetime Board Member, Mary Booher
Mary has a longtime record for community volunteer service. Her commitment to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® began in 1990 during the first organizational planning for the South Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the first Komen for the Cure and Race for the Cure presence in Florida.
Mary was a founding Board of Directors member and remains the only continuing member of the original founding board. Since serving as Co-Chair of the Komen South Florida Race for the Cure in 2000-2001, she has served as 2002 Race Chair, 2003 Consulting Chair, and has continued each year to serve as Race Advisor and member of the Race Planning Committee, working year round.
Mary was honored with establishment of annual Affiliate award in her name, “The Mary Booher Volunteer of the Year Award.” She has been recipient of the Affiliate’s highest honor, “The Eleanor Goodman Spirit Award for Extraordinary Volunteer Service.”
Mary continues active service on the South Florida Affiliate Board of Directors by election as Honorary Lifetime Member.
She has special interest and experience with community and corporate relationships, fundraising, media outreach, and ongoing creative strategies. Mary’s 2002 Race Essay, “No Better Place” is re-printed with her permission on this website.
